NEW funding for warning signs in towns and villages with a history of speeding has been announced by Somerset Country Council.

The speed indicator devices (SID) will be available to town and parish councils without charge after a £200,000 investment.

Council cabinet members David Hall and Harvey Siggs announced a new policy for how the council manages speed checking.

Mr Hall said: "Communities can now have warning signs installed to help them address the problems caused by speeding vehicles without it costing them a penny. If there are places in your community where frequent speeding is perceived to be a problem, I urge members of the public to speak to their parish council and encourage them to apply."
