POLICE in Crewkerne have been carrying out undercover operations to tackle shoplifting in the lead up to Christmas.
Officers have been working in plain clothes in the town to prevent and detect shoplifters targeting stores.
They have also been monitoring potential criminals from the town hall using the town's CCTV system.
Sergeant Rich Barnett (pictured) said the town's security camera system has proved vital in tackling crime. He said two people were arrested in the town centre in two days last week, as a result of the monitoring activities, and a third arrest was expected this week.
The town's CCTV system was discussed at a recent town council meeting where councillors resolved to continue funding for the cameras.
