  • CULTURAL AWARENESS: Pupils of Oaklands Primary School, in Yeovil, had fun learning about the Hindu festival of lights. Known as Diwali, it is one of the most popular festivals to come from South Asia. The five-day festival celebrates the triumph of good over evil and light over darkness.   • FUTURE STAR: Ten-year-old Bea Westerman-Loe, of Gillingham, has been accepted as a junior associate of the Royal Ballet School, in London. A pupil with the Dance Factory in Yeovil, she attends weekly classes with the Royal Ballet School in Totnes. Bea is currently studying the intermediate foundation syllabus and grade 4 RAD syllabus.   • TALL ORDER: Joshua and Lily Hockey, of South Petherton, planted sunflower seeds with their grandmother Mary Buckle. Joshua and his grandfather Dr James Buckle (above) celebrate the fact they reached a staggering 9ft 8 inches in height which the green-fingered family say is a record for them.

  • SHOCK HORROR: Deb Kinsman and daughter Jazmin, 18, of Yetminster queued from 7.30am to meet author Darren Shan who was signing his new book in Waterstones. Picture by Laura Jones.

  • CREATIVE JUICES: Imogen, a pupil at All Saints School in Montacute, won a competition to design a logo for the Hucknall Round Table 578 – part of the international charity roundtable.

  • LOOKING BACK: June Bailey, 88, a resident at Sherborne House Care Home, has a box full of special memories thanks to staff at the Yeovil-based care home.
