After a successful first quarter which has seen a year-on-year rise in properties under offer in Dorset and South Somerset, Knight Frank is delighted to announce the appointment of Luke Pender-Cudlip as head of the Sherborne office.

As Luke joins the team in Sherborne, good omens are afoot for the housing market in the South West for 2013 with Knight Frank already fielding some £25 million of offers, sales and interest in the last four weeks.

After 35 years at Knight Frank, Michael de Pelet is retiring from the office, but will be working as a consultant.

Luke will be working closely with partner and key player, Simon Barker.

Having headed up the office for Knight Frank in Wandsworth for six years as well as 20 years in property in Kensington, Notting Hill and Hong Kong, Luke brings a wealth of experience and expertise to the role.

Luke moved to Sherborne in 2011 but with family roots in the area since the 1980s, it has always been his "home from home". His parents moved to Donhead St Andrew in 1985 and currently live in Marnhull.

His sisters, brother, uncles, aunts and other relatives live in Mere, Frome, Marnhull, North Cheriton, Motcombe and Queen Camel.

Luke, a partner of Knight Frank, has worked at the firm since 1996 and amongst his achievements is the sale of the most expensive house within one year of opening a new office for Knight Frank. In a moment of madness he also swam the English Channel.

Luke said: "We have had the busiest January and February in 18 years looking at houses that might come to the market which indicates we are in for an active 2013.

"New buyer registrations are on the up and the offers coming in on some of the top end houses indicate confidence in the market is returning across the board.

"After working in London it strikes me what excellent value it is in the South West.

"You could pay up to £1000 per square foot in London and down here it is considerably less, plus you get space, views and land to boot.

It surprises me that more people do not weekly commute as it is only just over two hours by train from Sherborne to Waterloo.

"In making the compromise of four nights away from the family you and your family's quality of life is unbelievably enhanced."
