A SUSPECTED shooting at a veterinary practice in Sherborne on Saturday has been branded as nothing other than "senseless" criminal damage.

Sherborne police are appealing for witnesses after officers responded to reports that a shooting had taken place at Swan House Animal Hospital, on Lower Acreman Street, at 7pm.

On closer inspection it was found to be an incident of criminal damage which left two small holes through the glass of the front window of the premises.

Sergeant Rachel Goodwin said: "This was initially reported to us as a shooting but we ascertained it was a one-off incident of criminal damage.

"No one was hurt and there is no suggestion that a firearm was used. We are asking anyone for with information to come forward."

Head vet Mark Newton-Clarke, owner of the practice, said the damage was "stupid" and "senseless".

He said: "I heard it happen as I was in the building at the time.

"As with any street trader in Sherborne, the shop front is always vulnerable to this type of mindless criminality."

Anyone with information should contact Dorset Police on 101.
