BRUTON is gearing up to welcome Father Christmas to the town next week, with a festive extravaganza.
The town's High Street is to be closed to traffic on Wednesday evening in anticipation of the arrival of Father Christmas and his reindeer.
In daredevil style, Father Christmas will abseil down the Chapel, before being taken to his grotto, where he will be giving out presents.
Chairman of Bruton Chamber of Commerce Tricia Rawlingson Plant said: "We will also be switching on the Christmas lights down at Church Bridge Green and there will be a treasure hunt for children, and a very spooky ghost walk around Bruton for adults."
The road closure will also allow for around 15 outside stalls selling everything from roast chestnuts to cider, to cakes, to pottery. Musical entertainment will be provided by Wincanton Silver Band and the Bruton Church Choir.
The road will be closed between 6pm and 8pm.
Wincanton is to hold its Christmas extravaganza tomorrow evening from 5pm.
